Heart strings

There's a lump in my throat as I write this.

Soph called me when I was at lunch.
My mom dialled of course.
Mom told me Soph was crying for me when she woke up.
Then she handed the phone to Soph.

I said "Hi Sophiaaaa~ Sophia dah makan?"
in my usual tone that I use with her.
She was quiet but I could hear my mom in the background "eleleee lebarnya senyumm"
then I heard Soph giggle
<3

I kept talking to her despite her silence coz I knew she was listening.
I asked her again if she had eaten.
I told her I just had my lunch.
I asked her where her fairy wings were.
"faiwy", she said.
I told her, "nanti Mama balik kita main fairy okay~?"
"okay~", she said gently and calmly.
"Sophia nak kan main fairy? kejap lagi Mama balik okay?"
"okay~", she said.
<3

when my mom got back on the phone, she asked me what had I asked/told Soph that Soph kept saying 'ok'.
when I explained she said no wonder she was smiling and happy
<3

So now I can't wait to get home.
I want to let her swim in our plastic pool if I can get home early.
But now am reminded that I may have to go home late today, coz of a meeting at 3.
I did try to get the meeting to be held yesterday instead coz I noticed the habit of choosing Fridays. but it didn't work. maybe i'll try again the Friday after next.
come on man... "it's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday"

So, I'm missing Soph more than usual now.

We baked our first homemade cake together 2 nights ago!
we've baked together once but that was from an instant package.
then yesterday Soph said "nak cook" when she saw photos of her baking on my fb.
btw, my iPad's wallpaper when locked shows a photo of Sophia smiling.
she has long learned how to unlock the iPad but before doing so yesterday, she said "so chiutt".
hahahah my sis and I paused in disbelief for 2 seconds before we burst out laughing ;D

anyway, the cake turned out good surprisingly.
taste-wise la, i don't like the look of it though.
the icing was too runny, not sure if I was supposed to chill the icing first before spreading it on the cake.
and the 2 layers are not of the same size since I didn't use pans of the same size.
hahah
Thinking I had the right size, I bought the wrong baking pan the second time.
I just used them, with the expectation that the icing will hide the cakes inside.
That didn't happen since the icing was so runny.
hehe

I let Soph decorate the cake entirely on her own though, after I iced it.
I gave her balloons, and clowns and strawberries, as well as 'Happy Birthday' candles.
She was free to decorate it however she liked. and i think she enjoyed it :D
I did stop her from taking the decorations out to rearrange though. didn't want her to 'play' with the food that will be offered to others for consumption. I also made sure her hands were washed before we began.

Anyway, I felt like blogging after seeing a man browsing through children's clothing after lunch earlier.
I realised something happens in my heart when I see a father browsing/window shopping for children's items, be it clothes or toys.
I just find it so heartwarming and touching to observe that.
It's common for mothers everywhere to shop for their kids (obsessively too i might add) or to shop .full stop. hehe
but for fathers or the male species, you don't see that very often and when I do see that, a serene feeling washes over me.

the fact that that particular man i'm looking at is thinking about his children, imagining what they might like and which they'd prefer.
that he's giving them more thought than the basic 'i wonder if they're safe and sound at home' thought that us parents get 1 million times a day.
more thought on how the kids would be happy and excited when he brings the items home that evening :)
i could be making the story out to be more than it actually is though but hey, it makes me feel good :)

to fathers like these out there, keep it up. someone here appreciates it nvm that i'm in no way related to you. hehe

grandfathers too. i know my dad's like that. he's so sweet and he really thinks of what the recipient of the item would like. he always comes home from a trip and say "Grandpa bought this sbb Grandpa tahuu Sophia or -insert name of child/grandchild- meeessti suka ni" <3

I remember the first time hubby bought Soph clothes. I felt it too, only at least 10x more! <3
